IT is learnt that some western embassies in Yangon issued a joint statement on 24 December 2021 regarding the attacks in Kayin State. It is observed that the joint statement contained matters related to the attacks on civilians and accusations against security forces.
It is reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent diplomatic notes to respective embassies on 26 December and expressed their joint statement is based on unverifiable sources such as anti-government elements, terrorists and insurgent groups. The Ministry also warned that such kind of statement meddled in the internal affairs of the receiving State and violated the principles stipulated in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Charter of the United Nations.
It is also learnt that the Ministry expressed its objection to the said joint statement.
